Larry June & The Alchemist - The Great Escape

Legendary producer The Alchemist has linked together with San Francisco native Larry June for one of the hottest projects of the summer, The Great Escape. Listening through the LP, the chemistry between The Alchemist and Larry June is apparent on every track. The smooth upbeat west coast instrumentals mixed with the confident monotone bars from Larry June brings together a certain summertime vibe. Alongside the lyrics that Larry June brings, the fifteen track LP is packed with friendly features from Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Joey Bada$$, Ty Dolla $ign and plenty more. Throughout The Great Escape, the consistent message of blocking out the outside world and focusing on yourself, friends and family can be found across the album. Its quite humble, but braggadocios in the same manner. Larry June often raps about his materialistic possessions like the prices of his jewelry or driving exotic vehicles, but in the next breath, follows up with how to obtain these items by staying focused and working harder than the next individual. The importance of taking care of ones mind and body is also a common topic point throughout The Great Escape. Taking a step back from the world and collecting yourself is the key to staying on track. This is highlighted on everything from ridding around with the windows down, drinking different juices in the morning, to enjoying the afternoon ocean breeze. Without a doubt this album should already be in the conversation for project of the year in my opinion. This is definitely one of my favorite albums to be released in recent years and look forward to seeing what both Larry June and The Alchemist have in store for the future.
